"When I was in high school, I had the biggest crush on one of the guys on the track team. Jesse was one of those charming, good-looking guys, always ready with a smile. I was very shy in those days but he was kind to me, always offering a friendly hello. There always seemed to be lots of the 'popular' girls surrounding him so I, feeling self-conscious, couldn't do more than blush, mumble 'hi', and scurry away.
Now I'm in my 40s and travel a lot for work. I was sipping a drink in the lounge one evening before my flight, and was joined by an attractive man. Immediately I thought he looked like a grown-up Jesse, but I was reluctant to say anything just in case he thought I was coming on to him. He and I had exchanged a few words, when he suddenly said, 'I don't want you to think I'm just coming on to you... but you look like someone I went to school with. Is your name Jenn?'
I couldn't help it... I started laughing. He and I had been thinking the exact same thing, but he was the one with the courage to speak up. We kept talking until my flight left and exchanged phone numbers and emails. That was two years ago. We just got engaged. Sometimes life just hands you something so special that you have no choice but to accept it."
