Choosing a Wedding Venue
Planning your wedding can be both exciting and daunting. With so many
decisions to make, some people turn to the services of a professional
wedding planner - but if you don't have the budget or just prefer to
be in the thick of it all, you can take on the task yourself.
Choosing the right venue for your wedding and reception may include
some of the following:
- Accommodations for your out-of-town guests. If you have a lot
of guests that require overnight lodging, negotiate a group rate with the
hotel. Desire a more intimate setting? Consider bed & breakfast inns,
secluded resorts, cottages, or retreats as options.
Ask if the accommodation can provide you with rates on any special
wedding packages that may be available. Many will be happy to work with
you to customize your package, which could include catering, florists,
limousine, and perhaps even a romantic & decadent breakfast. Get
details on everything that is included in the package so that you can
plan for any additional expenses that may be needed.
If you would prefer to use your own caterer, florist, or photographer,
ask the hotel if that is an option. Some require that you choose from
their list of approved vendors.
- Transportation. Does the venue provide some form of transportation
to take out-of-town wedding guests to the hotel, or can they help to arrange
good rates for car rentals? Can it help you to arrange transportation for
your guests if you would like to have photographs taken in a location that's
off the hotel grounds?
- Planning a menu. Some hotels have on-site chefs and catering
facilities and welcome the opportunity to help you plan that perfect menu.
If they do not, ask around for recommendations.
- Arrangements for children and pets. If many of your guests will
be bringing their children, you may wish to choose a hotel or wedding venue
that has offers good rates for those with little ones. Most hotels welcome
children, and often will not charge for children under a certain age who
are sharing a room with their parents. Some also have special menus or
rates for children dining in the on-site restaurant.
Some hotels
are also pet-friendly, for guests who do not wish to leave their
pets behind. Be sure to ask for details about their pet policy and inquire
whether pet-sitting is available.
The choice of a wedding venue is time well-spent since it will
be a lasting part of your memories.
